The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services bumped the OASIS-C1 implementation date from Oct. 1, 2014 to Jan. 1, 2015, after the ICD-10 diagnosis coding set was delayed to October 2015. The hybrid OASIS tool will include all the C1 changes except five items addressing diagnosis codes – M1012, M1310, M1312, M1314 and M2440.
CMS is also making numerous non-diagnosis-coding-related revisions to the OASIS form. These changes include updating clinical concepts and modifying item wording and response categories to improve item clarity. While many familiar items will undergo minor changes in OASIS-C1, the risk for hospitalization item will see a more extensive makeover.
