CMS has announced that Illinois providers will have between April 17 – May 16 to make their choice of review under RCD. The reviews will be effective for all episodes of care starting on or after June 1, 2019. Providers will be required to make their choice within the Palmetto GBA portal at https://www.onlineproviderservices.com/ecx_improvev2/. It is important to note that the default choice will be 100% post-payment review , accordingly, you will want to be sure to gain access to Online Provider Services to choose the type of review you want. For many reasons we anticipate most providers will be best suited to choose the Pre-Claim review option. While Illinois providers are reasonably familiar with this process, it is coming and will be new to agencies in Ohio, North Carolina, Florida and Texas. No implementation date has been established for the remaining four states, though CMS did announce that a 60-day advance notice for these states will be provided. SMART Healthcare and Medicare Training & Consulting are in the process of setting up training dates in Illinois (Chicago area) starting later this month. As soon as these are booked you can find them at www.healthcarebesmart.com and / or www.medicareconsulting.net. We assisted a number of agencies to successfully navigate the “pre-claim” waters back in 2016 and look forward to working with agencies to be successful under RCD.
